TAG: I ♥ Spring!

Hello my Beauties, happy sunday to all of you. The sun is shining here today, birdies are singing and it almost feels like our warm spring is finally here.

That made me really want to do this I ♥ Spring tag, that has been going around a lot these days.
So without further talk, let’s get down to business.
I love Spring tag by Luchessa1. Favorite Nail Polish?
I really love my Meet me at coral island by Catrice. It has the right amount of pink and orange in it to create a beautiful smooth coral color on the nails.

2. What is your must-have lip color this spring?
First of all a must-have to me is a good lip balm, which is a Fresh Sugar Lip Treatment with PSF 15 at the moment and in terms of color. i’m going to stick with my current love, that made it into my last favorites post, a nice sheer coral – Tarte LipSurgence in Glisten.
3. Show us your favorite spring dress!
I have to admit, i’m that big in wearing dresses at all and even less when it comes to spring & summer dresses. The only ones i find cozy, are those wool knitted dresses for the winter time.

4. What’s your favorite flower?
I really love the light blue and purple Hydrangeas. When i was traveling to Italy a few years ago they were right at their bloom and i remember taking a tons of pictures…i wish i had them in my home all year around…

Blue purple Hydrangeas5. Favorite spring scarf/accessory?
You have to know, i’m actually more of an autumn girl and do not have that many “spring inspired” clothing items and accessories, but i picked 2 things, that i will totally rock this spring. One is my beautiful fresh orangy coral crossbody bag from Accessorize and my somewhat  Chanel inspired chain scarf, that you might have seen me wearing both HERE.
I was very much inspired by Lodis Accessories Del Rey Daria Crossbody, Banana Republic Red Leather Handbag, and especially Kate Spade Flicker Scout Bag- Flo Coral , so when i saw a similar style bag at Accessorize, i had to get it.
Bright coral orange crossbody bag Accessorize6. What spring trend(s) are you most excited about this year? (Makeup, Fashion or both!)
I think i’m very much excited about all the new nail polish trends, like the textured and mirrored polishes. Makes it really interesting to try them. Neons aren’t really my thing, but i see all the fun ballet flats for summer in stores already and it makes think, that spicing up a neutral outfit with some really bright blue or coral ballets wouldn’t be that bad at all.
7. Favorite Spring Candle?
Well, don’t be surprised, but it’s literally Spring by Slatkin & Co, that Bath & Body Works brought out in Spring 2012.
I love how it combines many floral scents and smells still very fresh and “happy”.
Candle Spring Slatkin & Co Bath & Body works8. Favorite body spray/perfume for spring?
I always go with my mood. One day i like to use a nice body lotion, like the Berry Flirt by Bath and Body Works and the other day i’m going for my wonderful Angel Gold perfume by Victoria’s Secret.
I love spring tag Berry flirt, Tarte Glisten, Catrice polish9. What is spring like where you live?
Well right now, it’s still very cold, but at least sunny. Today we have +5 °C, which is definitely way too cold for April, but i’m hoping it’s going to chance soon to the better & warmer. Usually there are much more blooming trees here and the air is full with flower scents.
And all you want to do is to sit somewhere outside in the sun with your big cup of coffee and just BE. 🙂
10. What’s your favorite things about spring?
I’m more outgoing and on the road during spring and summer, so i can’t wait for the warmth to come. And from the girly perspective of spring i will have to say, finally be able to wear cute booties and pumps, that are still sitting in my closet right now…
11. Are you a spring cleaner?
Funny enough i’m more of a winter and summer cleaner when it comes to my wardrobe, but of course i will be cleaning my windows soon (ok maybe in a few weeks…) and plant some flowers on the balcony, just like mama teached me to. 😉

There you go, my Beauties. I hope it was fun for you to read and as always you are very much invited to do the tag as well to welcome the spring 2013 season. 🙂

Beauty Blogger Tag!

Hello my Beauties,

how is your friday going so far? Hope you’ve started making plans for the weekend…

If you follow my blog for some time, you might have noticed how much i like all the fun beauty related tag’s, as it’s a great way to get to know the person behind the actual blog and get a sneak peek behind the curtains.
Today i found another Beauty Blogger Tag over at The Fashionista Observer and decided to share it with you.

Beauty Blogger Tag with Luchessa

   1. Is your hair naturally curly or straight? It’s something in between. Rather straight, but a little curly on the ends.

  1. What’s your natural hair color? A dark brown.
  1. Do you dye it yourself or go to a salon? I don’t dye my hair at all, it’s quite sensitive to all the chemical stuff, so i try to stay away from anything, that would make me lose my hair.
  1. Do you wear the same style every day or do you change it? In my daily life i tend to wear same style, just because I have to wear certain things at work.
On the weekends or on special occasion though, i try to work my other – the more fancy side and wear something fun with nice statement jewelry.
  1. Do you do your own mani/pedi or go to a salon? I definitely do my own mani and pedi, since it literally calms me down and is so much fun, that i just enjoy taking this time and pamper myself.
  1. How often do you change your nail polish? Mostly ones a week.  It really depends on the circumstances. If i really get into the experimental mood, i change it every 3-4 days.
  1. Do you polish your toes in the winter or just the summer? My toes are painted all year round. Never a bright color. Over the winter some kind of french or pinkish nude and over the summer some light metallic color, that goes with any type of shoes.
    Catrice Just married, Browno Mars
  1. How long does it take for you to put on your makeup? I would say i need my 20 minutes. Even if i’m really quick with doing my whole face, i like to take my time with the application.
And let’s be honest, for special occasions, like a birthday party or a date, we all love to spend like 2 hours trying things out and get the best result possible, right? 😉
  1. What do you do first, face or eyes? I always do my foundation first, along with concealer if needed. Then comes powder, blush and (bronzer or) highlighter. And i do my eyes last. 🙂
  1. Do you “collect” makeup or just buy what you need when you need it? A little bit of both probably. As a beauty blogger i like to stay up to date and see what kind of new innovative products are out there, but i never buy a type of product, that i never use for that purpose. Lately i treated myself with nail polishes only.
  1. How often do you wear false eye lashes? As i have very sensitive eyes, when it comes to “foreign bodies” – that’s why i could never wear contacts – I don’t wear false eye lashes, unless it’s for a photo shooting or a professional makeup session.
  1. Do you do a full face of makeup every day? It really depends on the condition of my skin at that moment. If i feel, like my canvas is looking quite good, i don’t do my foundation or concealer, i just grab my favorite powder and apply some blush for a fresh look. But what i always do is my eyes, since i feel like it makes my face look much more awake. Mascara is a must!
  1. Do you wear makeup when you are home alone, or with family? No i don’t. The only thing i use, is a good face moisturizer and a nice lip balm.
Burt's Bees lip balm, Eisenberg Fluid Cream
  1. Will you leave the house without makeup? I can totally do that, but the thing is, i like playing with my makeup way too much, to miss the opportunity of  putting something on, when going out. 😉 I guess you get the picture.
  1. How many high-end products do you have? I would say i mostly use drugstore to mid-range products, but probably 1/4 of my whole collection is high-end.
  1. Do you plan your OOTD every night or decide when you are getting dressed? I usually plan my special occasion outfits quite a bit, coordinating it by color and style, but my daily outfits are mostly something i decide to wear spontaneously.
  1. How often do you change your handbag? My every day bag goes with almost everything, it’s a versatile one. But when i go out on weekends i like having a small clutch with me, that’s when i change my bags the most.
  1. What time do you get up and go to sleep? When i get up at 7am, i’m usually in bed around midnight, but when i have day’s where i get the chance to sleep longer, i’m not up until 11am and obviously not sleeping until 2am…actually i’m a night owl.
  1. How often or when do you work out? I have to confess, i’m not really a sports person. Every now and then i do some yoga, but it only happens ones or twice a month.
  1. Left handed or right-handed? Right-handed.
  1. How tall are you? I’m a petit woman, around 5’2.
  1. Do you speak a foreign language? I do speak 4 languages quite well, such as German, Russian, Spanish and English.
  2. How many pets do you have? I don’t have any pet’s, but i always wanted a dog.
  1. How often are you on blogger? (or your other blog platform) I usually check my WordPress every day, but post around 3 times a week, sometime even more often!!!
  1. Do you read comments posted on blogs? Yes, i always do, as i love to interact with my readers and fellow bloggers.
  1. Do you keep a list of products to try as you see other posts? Yes i do. I even have a small book, where i write my post ideas down.
  1. How did you come up with your blog name?
I came up with “Beauty expression”, as i like to express myself about all things, that make us women beautiful, and that’s not only makeup.
  1. What kind of camera do you use for photographs? I use my beloved Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ7.
  1. How often do you clean your house? Ones a week a little bit everywhere and another time a serious cleaning on weekends.
  1. What is your favorite color? I wear mostly purple, blues and reds in my free time. As i have to wear black for work, i tend to grab a fun color, when i go out.
  1. Do you swear? On rare occasions…you know sometimes it expresses just the best, how you feel…
But i do remind myself to be a lady normally. 🙂
  1. What are you doing with the rest of your day?
After work i like to relax, read the comments on my blog and answer your emails.
In the evenings, a cup of tea and a movie is just the best relaxation for me.

I hope you had fun reading this tag, my Beauties. You are all welcome to do it as well!!
I would like to tag a few of my fellow beauty bloggers and hope to read their answers soon. 🙂

♥ Nails of the Week ♥

Hello my Beauties!

These days I’m all about nails and nail polishes. I collected a few new ones over the holidays and am now totally in the mood for a few experiments.
I’ve seen many cool & inspiring tutorials on youtube and read posts from fellow bloggers lately. Today I’ve decided to do my first “Nails of the week” post.
Something that always looked appealing to me, is a braided look, of course mostly as a hair style, but recently I came across many braided nail designs which I liked.
So this is my shy attempt.
Braided nail design Catrice Essence

The colors, as well as the combination of it look a little different as it appears on the pictures, but you definitely get an overview.
A metallic silver base with a glossy finish and a few colorful accents of a dark blue-ish green and a bright coral.

As an alternative, or for those who are not that talented with their left hand, here is an example for a simple silver manicure with the bright coral and a few silver stripes, made with the nail art tip painter.
Stripes design silver manicure essenceI have to admit, my right hand definitely looks very wearable for every day in the office ect. The left one is let’s say, more outgoing. 😉
Maybe next time I will do every nail in the same style.

If you want to create a silver manicure, here are the actual products that I’ve used:

❄ I ♥ Drugstore Makeup TAG! ❄

Hello my Beauties!

It’s finally weekend. It was a crazy and busy week for me, so right now i’m just happy to stay in, since it’s really cold outside.
While enjoying my cozy weekend, i’ve decided to do this fun I ♥ Drugstore Makeup TAG, that has been going around youtube so much lately. Hope you do it as well. 🙂

I tag YOU all to do this!

THE QUESTIONS:

1. What is your favorite drugstore makeup brand?
There are two actually. The well-known Revlon & the german brand Catrice. I think the most drugstore items that i use on the daily basis are by Cartice. I love how the quality meets price here. And as i became a huge fan of the Revlon Colorburst Lip Butters this year, Revlon has to be my other brand of choice.

2. What are your favorite face, cheek and lip products?
My favorite lip products of the year 2012 are definitely the Revlon Colorburst Lip Butters and the new Sheer Glam lipsticks by P2 cosmetics. Two current ones that i’m loving are the 070 Cherry Tart & 060 Fame! The sheer glam lipsticks are a great alternative to Revlon’s lip butters, as they are not being sold here in Germany (what a shame btw!)
They have a creamy buttery consistency, a little bit of color and leave my lips moisturized. I’m really happy with all the lipsticks by P2 and that’s one of the reasons, why you can win one of them in my current giveaway. Plus i find the P2 packaging super cute.
Revlon Colorburst Lip Butter P2 Sheer Glam lipstickAs for my favorite cheek product i would have to pick the Silky Touch Blush in 10 adorable by Essence, a very light pink with a  matte finish. I love the formula and how beautifully pigmented the blushes by Essence are. There’s no issues with blending into powder or liquid foundation at all. The packaging is very simple clear study plastic, and i have had no problems even while traveling.
Essence Silky Touch Blush 10 adorable

My most favorite face product of the year is the Bebe young care Goodbye make-up tinted moistruizer.
(It’s by Johnson-Johnson, so you might find something similar in the States). It gives my face moisture and a light coverage, as a great alternative to heavy makeup, like thick foundations or heavy powders. I didn’t feel like my skin needs too much coverage these days, so this product has been exactly right. It smells a little bit like sunblock, which reminds me of a beach vacation every time i use this tinted moisturizer.

3. Least favorite product? For me it’s the Maybelline color sensational lipstick in golden pearl 862. I didn’t expect it to be that shimmery & pearly. You don’t get much color on your lips, way less than from Revlon’s lip butters. And i feel after drinking, eating and talking, i have that shimmer all over my face. I know i sounds a little weird, but i just don’t like it. But on top of all that i find this typical “lipstick smell” unpleasant.
So for me, it’s the biggest downside to this lipstick, along with the pretty high price (around 10 euro/13 US-Dollar).
Maybelline color sensational pearly nude 862
4. What is the best makeup bargain? Seriously i will have to go with the Essence blushes again. Great product for really small money!! If you have an Essence display at your local drugstore, go ahead and try them.

5. What is your favorite underdog product? (Something you love that often gets overlooked?) Recently i have discovered the highlighter pen by Catrice. It’s a relative new product on the market, but i feel like it didn’t get enough attention so far. It’s a creamy pearly long-lasting highlighter, that reminds me a little bit of the NYX  jumbos. It brightens really well the eyebrow area and gives a nice sparkle in the corner of my eyes. I enjoy using this highlighter pen on the daily basis.
highlighter pen Catrice made to stay

6. A drugstore product that is overpriced? This one is really easy. It’s the L’Oreal Paris Studio Secrets Smoothing Primer. Not least because of the newest addition on Catrice’s display. During the summer Catrice came out with the new Prime and Fine Smoothing Refiner, that looks a lot like the Secrets Smoothing Primer. The only difference is that the jar that it comes in, is not made of glas, but plastic. But seriously, that is the only downside for Catrice. The texture is the same, mousy and creamy. The primer by L’Oreal needs much longer to soak in. And i don’t even start with the price. L’Oreal around 16 euro vs. Catrice  4, 99 euro. So as you can see – L’Oreal Paris Studio Secrets Smoothing Primer is just way too overpriced & not competitive.

7. Show your best drugstore dupe!!  The best one that i have handy at the moment is one of my all time favorites mono eyeshadow is  Catrice 410 C’mon Chameleon as dupe to  M.A.C. Club.
Anyone who ever had a makeup obsession knows how M.A.C. Club looks like. Club is officially described as “a red brown with a green shimmer”. In my opinion it’s more complex when you look at it. A light brown, green and blue mixed toghether with little sparkles. And  it looks different depending on the way you wear it. C’mon Chameleon is a lovely duochrome forest green mixed with warm brown  color. The effect is even better i noticed, when applied on a dark base like a black NYX jumbo pencil.
C'mon Chameleon eyeshadow Catrice

8. Drugstore product that isn’t worth the hype? In my eyes it’s Rimmel London lasting finish by Kate in 05. Yes i know Rimmel  teamed up with Kate Moss to create that line, and it was all over the media. But somehow i didn’t like the formula, nor the feel on my lips. And yes, maybe i’m not the biggest fan of bright, matte lip colors – the lipsticks are described as a satin finish, but to me, they are definitely matte. And besides, i can’t stand when a lipstick  blends into the lines of my lips. No wonder this one has been lying around after just a week of using. True story.

New addiction: Mauvie Star

Hello Beauties!

If you’re like me (most of the times) trying to create a nice eye look, with different colors and good blending work, you want the result to stay in place for many hours, preferred all day. Often we find some of the eyeshadows not being as lasting as we would wish. And that was exact the moment, when I discovered the cream shadows.

In the world of cream eyeshadow there is big variety in color and consistency these days. Almost every brand has some creaseless longlasting cream shadows out on the market, both high-end and drugstore. So basically there is no excuse for not having tried them yet.

They all come in a  little glass pot and you can apply easily with your finger, although I’m not a big fan of dipping my finger in (even less while having long finger nails). I prefer using a small synthetic brush to apply those.

Today i would like to talk about the newest addition to my little cream eyeshadow collection and two other favorites for the fall time of the year.

My newest shadow is the Made to Stay Longlasting Eyeshadows in 070 Mauvie Star.
(5.0 g /0.17 oz)
It’s a very intresting greyish silvery purple with multicolor shimmer.

And if you are a Chanel lover, you will also notice the similarity to Chanel Illusion D’Ombre 83 Illusoire.

The color appears pretty sheer after just one coat, which means you can easily build it without overdo it too fast. I found it a good solution to apply more after blending the first layer and having it dry for a few seconds. The mauve color and all the shimmer stand out pretty well, so the compliments are guaranteed. Finally a really great drugstore cream shadow!

Try it, if you can find Catrice products in your area.

Beside my new addiction i have also two of my favorite autumn appropriate shadows, which are the Benefit Creaseless Cream Shadow in Strut (4,50 g/0,16 oz) – a shimmery charcoal gray and the Maybelline Color Tattoo in 45 Bold Gold (4g/0,14oz) a medium toned golden shade with a little bit of bronze it it (which I personally love).

As you can see, Strut can also be used as a cream liner. That would explane all the lines in the pot (and the fact, that it’s my oldest cream shadow). I also tried to line my lower lid with the Mauvie Star, but it’s a little too creamy to be used as a liner.

The Maybelline one if definitelly an alternative to the Mac Paint Pots and can be used as an eyeshadow base, eyeliner or eyeshadow. Hello, versatility! It’s not fully opaque but is easily buildable, same as Mauvie Star by Catrice.

The creaseless cream by Benefit is good as a liners and works well as a base beneath powder shadows. But if i’m honest, i wear it best just by itself, creating a nice greyish smokey eye look.

Each of them paired with a good primer, will stay put all day long without creasing or fading. That’s for sure. And those three colors are basicly my pick for the autumn looks. What are yours?

Have you worn the Creaseless Creams, Color Tattoo’s or the Made to Stay longlasting eyeshadow’s before, and do you have any must-haves ideas for me? Please share your secrets!

Prime and Fine Illuminating Base

Over the past years primers and illuminating products have become very important in the beauty world.
A good primer wasn’t always my essential part of the daily makeup application, but I have to admit a primer helps to create a smooth working canvas, minimize flaws and keep your makeup in place over the whole day.
Some of them mattify your skin, other give you a nice healthy glow as a finish and moisturize your face additionally.
After noticing that phenomenon, i started hunting for the next best primer out there. One of the latest products on the german market is the Prime and Fine Illuminating base by Catrice.

Catrice launched a new look in 2011 that stands for professional quality, but remained an affordable brand. For now it seems like the only illuminating base that can be found at the drugstore, which is probably good and bad at the same time. The advantage of being the first one in stores and the pressure of bringing out a great base on the market, that’s going to be compared to the high-end products.

I wanted to try the illuminating base myself and see how good it really is.

It comes in a slim & sleek tube that contains only 20ml (0.67 oz.) of the product.
With 4,99€  ( about 6,5 US Dollar) it is probably at the higher price range in the drugstore landscape and shouldn’t be considered a low-cost item, if you compare it to ELF or Essence products.

It has a liquid consistency, which makes it pretty simple to spread over the face.
The color is pinkish nude and has a nice golden shimmer to it, that makes your skin glow and ready for the foundation.
After applying the base my skin felt really soft and a little velvety. And most important – it looked very healthy.

The smell is really uncommon in my opinion. Probably it’s one of those smells that you either love or hate.
It’s really powdery &  artificial and reminds me of a peach flavored yoghurt or candy. But personally I don’t have anything against this smell, besides it gets covered by the foundation anyways.

I tried the base in combination with my current Estee Lauder Double Wear Light (stay in place) makeup and without any powder, to see if the base really makes the makeup stay longer. And really, i didn’t get as shiny after a few hours as i often do and my makeup was still there in the evening, which is a great accomplishmentI looked healthy and glowy, but not shiny. And that’s a big difference!

I should also mention, that i didn’t have any bad reactions to this product, like breaking out or skin irritation.

This base reminded me a little bit of the Smooth Operator Amazonian clay illuminating serum by Tarte. I might be doing a comparing between the two soon.

What is your current makeup base/illuminating base and why do you love it? Please share your secrets!

Summer Favorites 2012

Let’s talk summer favorites. Can you actually believe it’s september already? I think I’ve even seen the first yellow leaves covering the trees…

Anyhow, for me the summer is almost over and it’s time to evaluate what kind of products I really enjoyed using and why.

  • I’d like to begin with my all time helper in the morning. And that’s my Arabica coffee.

Yes I know, it’s not exactly a beauty item, but it makes me awake and smile every day, and as we know – smiling makes every girl (and boy) beautiful!

  • In the area of decorative cosmetics I want to point out my highlights of this summer: the Ultimate Shine lipstick in 080 Corallicious Pink and the Ultimate Nail Lacquer 030 Meet Me At Coral Island. Both by the german brand Cartice.

I really enjoy wearing lipsticks from the Ultimate Shine collection, since they always fit my idea of shade, texture and formula. The  application goes on very smoothly, gives my lips enough moisture ( no one likes dry lips ),  doesn’t feel sticky and it stays pretty much shiny and in place for over 2,5 – 3 hours.  Personally thinking – the best feature is def the almost nonexistent traditional lipstick smell, which many can not stand! So all in one a really great summer lip product!

Matching the lipstick would be the Nail Lacquer by Catrice 030 Meet Me At Coral Island. Usually you only need one coat to get the wanted color on your nails. Depending on the light the color can look more corally or pinkish. Funny enough, even on the official Catrice Cosmetics website the color appears much more pinkish than it is in real life.

So because i was so much in love with the coral color this summer and had a few month to test them,  i can absolutely recommend both items. If you can get your hands on Catrice products, you should def give them a try!

  • Going over to my top 3 hair and skin care items of this summer.
  1. MoroccanOil Oil Treatment
  2. Lumene Natural Code skin purifier 24h Moisturizer.
  3. Balea erfrischendes Bodyspray Minze & Grüner Tee (refreshing body mist with mint & green tea by Balea)

So many ladies have been raving about the MoroccanOil Oil Treatment all over the net. By now we all are aware of the nourishing effect of the product. I instantly felt in love with the smell, which again isn’t  too strong. If you put it on your almost dry hair, the oil makes it smooth and almost silky. The hairstyle does stay in place all day long and even 2 days later it doesn’t feel more greasy than usual.

My favorite daytime oil-free moisturizer of this summer was Natural Code skin purifier 24h. The finnish brand Lumene claims the moisturizer  balances the sebum secretion and mattiefies the skin. The formula is pretty light, so your face doesnt feel like having a lot on, which is always nice during summer time and Lumene includes salisylic acid, to prevent possible breakouts. Great product, especially for combination & oily skin types.

And last but not least the body mist with mint & green tea by the german drugstore brand Balea, which launches different limited summer editions every year. The smell is not too strong (by now you should have noticed i’m not a big fan of really strong scents) and the green tea definitelly dominates over the mint. The mist is pretty fine and cooling on the skin and doesn’t feel sticky, so I liked to spritz myself all over with it on a really hot summer days.

Have you ever tried any MoroccanOil or Lumene products?

Glad if this post helped someone 🙂

Tell me, what your favorite summer product of the year are. I’d like to hear your stories!
